From my Facebook post where a lot of kids and adults seem to be following. Sorry if too basic for this group:

The other week everyone seemed to like the Heart Nebula (IC 1805). A few sharp people mentioned that the Soul Nebula (IC 1848) was also nearby and frequently imaged together. The Soul nebula is so named because it looks like a person (or embryo) looking to the side and you can see the “inner soul”. Well last night I collected sixty 5 minute exposures of these massive star forming complexes within the Perseus spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy. These light photons took roughly 6000 years to reach my backyard on a clear Wednesday night. Some people have asked me how small these structures are in the sky. They aren’t small and are actually quite large with an apparent size in our sky of ten full moons in length and about 5-6 full moons wide. The two nebula are about 500 light years across. So not small but just very faint!

I will let you decide for yourself how much of the universe was designed and how much is chance. Two nebulas that look like this sitting side by side with light photons traveling six thousand years to show up at my house on a clear night in Minnesota during 2020 while I am on vacation so I can collect them in my telescope seems like a lot of chance.....but I do seem to get a lot of vacation so who knows?

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
